Expected Public Impact:
Blasting
- Blasting operations will occur during Phase IV.
- Both sides of the interstate will be closed during blasting and interstate cleanup.
- Blasting will be performed during the hours of 7 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. having less impact on daily traffic.
Increased State Trooper Presence
- Construction speed limit of 55 MPH will be heavily monitored and enforced by an increased State Trooper
presence for the duration of the project
Accident
- During Phases IV thru VII, any accidents in the eastbound or westbound lanes while traffic is transferred
into the median lanes will shut down that respective lane until the traffic accident is cleared.
- During Phases IV thru VII, potential problems exist for emergency vehicles accessing the accident scene.
- During all phases, the narrower lanes in conjunction with planned lane shifts may increase the likelihood
of accidents.
Ramp Closures
- No ramp closures are anticipated. However, the planned closure of Cooks Springs Road during Phase II will impact the
public's ability to enter I-20.
Public Delays
- As in all roadway construction projects, the public should anticipate delays especially during high congestion times during
the day.
Work Zone Driving Tips
- Adhere to the posted speed limits.
- Pay attention.
- Use proper turn signals for lane changes.
- Do not weave in and out of traffic.
- Keep a safe distance from the car ahead.
- Minimize distractions such as using cellular telephones.
- As always, buckle up.
- For your safety and the safety of others, watch for lane/ramp closures and detour signs.
- Continue to pay attention to work zone signs, even when the work is long term or widespread.
- Remain Calm.
