Project Description
Adding additional lanes on I-20 from west of the HJ Bentley Parkway Bridge to east of the Snow Creek
Bridge in Oxford, Alabama.
Length: 4.478 miles

May 15, 2012 ~ PROGRESS 20 Announces Lane Shifts in place until Winter 2012
From MP 182-MP 188, Eastbound and Westbound traffic is shifted to the outside shoulder.
Grading, drainage work and paving will continue in the median in this area to add additional
lane in both directions. Traffic will be shifted to the outside shoulder until approximately December 2012.

Repaving and adding additional lanes including Bridge Widening
on I-20 from the Snow Creek Bridge (mile marker 185.83) in
Oxford to the Cleburne County Line (mile marker 193.784)

May 15, 2012 ~ PROGRESS 20 Announces Lane Closures/Shifts Throughout the Summer
From Mile Marker 190 to 189, Westbound traffic is shifted to the median detour. The speed
limit is reduced to 45 MPH. Traffic will be shifted to this detour until approximately May 23, 2012.
From Mile Marker 189 – MP 190, Eastbound traffic is shifted to the outside shoulder. This traffic
shift will remain in place until approximately May 25, 2012.
From Mile Marker 191 to MP 190, Westbound traffic is shifted to the inside shoulder to widen the
Choccolocco Creek Relief bridge. Traffic will be shifted to the inside shoulder until approximately August 2012.
From Mile Marker 191 to MP 192 Westbound traffic will be reduced to one lane. The outside lane will be closed
first, followed by the inside lane to place new striping and pavement markers. This work will create a lane shift
to the inside shoulder. This lane shift will be in place until approximately August 2012. The lanes will be
reduced from 12’ to 11’ in this area.

Expected Public Impact:
- Moderate Delays Can Be Expected.
- A speed limit of 55 mph will be strongly enforced in the Work Zone.
Work Zone Driving Tips
- Adhere to the posted speed limits.
- Pay attention.
- Use proper turn signals for lane changes.
- Do not weave in and out of traffic.
- Keep a safe distance from the car ahead.
- Minimize distractions such as using cellular telephones.
- As always, buckle up.
- For your safety and the safety of others, watch for lane/ramp closures and detour signs.
- Continue to pay attention to work zone signs, even when the work is long term or widespread.
- Remain Calm.
