September 12, 2008 Expect I-65 Southbound Lane Closures and Day Street ramp closures beginning early
Saturday morning.
· I-65 Southbound will be reduced to one lane and the I-85 and I-65 Northbound ramps from Day Street
will be closed. The delays will be caused by the contractor setting new bridge girders on the I-65 Southbound bridge over I-85 and
Jeff Davis Avenue. Weather permitting, the lane reduction and ramp closures should begin at around 6:00 a.m. on Saturday morning
September 13 and may continue through mid-day Sunday, September 14. Significant delays should be expected on I-65 South.
Alternate routes are recommended to minimize delays. Drivers traveling I-65 South wishing to avoid the work zone altogether may exit
the interstate at Millbrook/Prattville via Exit 179 and follow US-31 South to Hope Hull, where they can return to I-65 south of the
work zone.
· Drivers traveling eastbound Day Street will be detoured to the Herron Street Interchange. This detour
can be utilized by taking a left on Hill Street from Day Street just west of the I-85 Interchange, a right on Old Day Street, a left on
Oak Street, and a right on Herron Street. These detour routes will be signed to help motorists minimize the expected delays.
·
I-85 Southbound traffic to I-65 Northbound and Southbound should not be impacted.

August 7, 2008 · Construction crews late Thursday night will begin moving temporary barrier
walls and painting new traffic stripes in anticipation of shifting traffic to the rebuilt lanes and opening the interchanges that
have been closed since Friday, July 25th. Southbound traffic will be reduced to one lane beginning around 7:00 pm on Thursday evening.
Traffic should be shifted onto the two new southbound lanes and all of the ramps opened by 6:00 am on the morning of Friday, August 8th.
There is a possibility that this shift may not take place until mid-morning and that only a single southbound lane will be open during
the morning rush hour on Friday. This would be caused by unexpected weather or contractor delays.
· Montgomery Police Department
and Alabama State Troopers will be strictly enforcing speed limits.
August 1, 2008 · I-65 southbound traffic has been moved into the newly constructed median and reopened
into two divided lanes. At this time, I-65 southbound traffic will be unable to access South Boulevard, Edgemont Avenue, and Fairview Avenue
via exit ramps. The entrance and exit ramps for those roads will be closed for approximately 30 days and it will be necessary for local traffic
to use alternate routes.
See http://www.progress65.com/phase4b.htm portion of this website for more details.
· Montgomery Police Department and Alabama State Troopers will be strictly enforcing speed limits.
July 24, 2008 · The project will move to its next phase Friday night as construction workers take steps
to begin rebuilding the southbound interstate lanes and ramps at the Fairview Avenue, Edgemont Avenue and South Boulevard exits.
· The first step in the southbound phase of work begins Friday evening, July 25, after 7 p.m., as workers will close the southbound inside
lane to begin setting up traffic control signs and a temporary concrete barrier wall. With the inside lane closed to allow a safe work area,
the outside lane will be used for all traffic along I-65 South.
· The lane reduction will last throughout the weekend and significant delays
should be expected on I-65 South as well as I-85 South. Alternate routes are recommended to minimize delays. Drivers traveling I-65 South wishing
to avoid the work zone altogether may exit the interstate at Millbrook/Prattville via Exit 179 and follow US-31 South to Hope Hull, where
they can return to I-65 south of the work zone. Drivers traveling I-85 South to I-65 can exit I-85 at Eastern/North Boulevard to I-65 North and
Eastern/South Boulevard to I-65 South. These detour routes will be signed to help motorists minimize the expected delays.
·
Early Saturday morning, July 26, the ramp from I-85 South to I-65 South will be closed for approximately two hours making a short detour route
necessary. During this time, traffic volumes are at their lowest so no delays are expected. Message boards and police will be used to direct
traffic to I-65 North and back to I-65 South via the Herron Street exit.
· By the end of the weekend, southbound traffic will be
moved into the newly constructed median and reopened into two, divided lanes. At this time, the I-65 South entrance and exit ramps for Fairview
Avenue, Edgemont Avenue and South Boulevard will be closed. The plans call for these entrance and exit ramps to be closed for approximately
30 days with alternate routes available using local streets or Exit 167 to bypass the closed ramps.
· Once traffic enters the construction zone just south of the I-85
Interchange, a concrete barrier wall or solid lines on the roadway will prevent lane changes while in the median lanes. The work zone speed
limit is 45 mph, and excessive speed, lane changes, tailgating or other unsafe driving maneuvers could cause crashes and major traffic problems.
ALDOT and law enforcement officials urge drivers to use caution in the work zone to help avoid traffic problems that would cause extensive
traffic back-ups and delays.
· The two-lane merge ramp from I-85 to I-65 will be reduced to one lane until this phase of work is
completed. The lane reduction will begin on I-85 around the Union Street Exit, with traffic control signs to inform I-85 traffic heading toward
I-65 to merge to the lane that remains open.
· Montgomery police will maintain a police presence in the work zone around the clock
to assist with traffic control, and police and state troopers will patrol the work zone to enforce speeding and other traffic laws.

July 2, 2008· On the night of Friday, July 4, 2008, the right lane of I-65 northbound will be closed for a
period of approximately 3 hours. During this time, there will be no access to I-85 from I-65 northbound. After this initial period, the
right lane will be reopened and placed onto the newly paved northbound lanes. At this time the ramps to South Boulevard, Edgemont
Avenue, Fairview Avenue and I-85 will be reopened. Access to these ramps will be restricted to vehicles in the right lane. Left lane
vehicles will not be able to exit the interstate prior to the Herron Street exit. Traffic will remain in this state through the majority
of the weekend. At some point Sunday, the left lane will be closed for a period of 3 hours. After 3 hours, the left lane will be reopened
and placed along side the right lane on the newly paved northbound lanes. At that point, all northbound traffic will have full access to
all ramps through Montgomery. Significant delays should be anticipated especially during the periods that I-65 northbound is reduced
to one lane.
· Montgomery Police Department and Alabama State Troopers will be strictly enforcing speed limits.
